The charity board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in the central city of Da Nang was among 72 groups and individuals presented with certificates of merit honoring their outstanding social contributions in the city at a ceremony held on June 11.
The ceremony held by the municipal authorities marking the 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's appeal for patriotic emulation on June 11, 1948 saw the participation of Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Huỳnh Đức Thơ, and large numbers of representatives from municipal departments, agencies and social-political organization.
The charity board of the VBS chapter in Da Nang is currently headed by Superiour Nun Thích Nữ Diệu Cảnh. Over the past years, the Buddhist charity board organized medical charities in week days in Phap Lam Pagoda for providing free health checks and medicines to the poor. From the 2016-2017 period, the charity board supported the upgrading of 51 charities houses, kindergartens and learning classes.
In addition, over the previous two years, the Buddhist charity board provided support to disadvantaged people including poor patients, orphans, lonely elderly and people with disabilities, as well as sent relief to victims of natural calamities in Da Nang and other localities in the Central and Southwestern regions. Social charities implemented by the Buddhist charity board in two years of 2016 and 2017 have amounted to VND 50 billion.
