Bac Giang province marks 138th anniversary of Yen The Uprising

The festival to mark the 138th anniversary of the Yen The Uprising against the French colonists led by hero Hoàng Hoa Thám was held on March 15 at the Hoang Hoa Tham Historical Site in Phon Xuong Town, Yen The District, Bac Giang Province.

Due to the complicated Covid-19 pandemic, the organizing board held only worshipping rituals.

The Yen The festival aims to honour the significant history of the uprising and pay homage to the uprising’s leader, Hoàng Hoa Thám. The uprising has been considered as the biggest and longest armed rebellion staged by farmers before the national resistance led by Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Yen The Festival was first organised on March 16, 1984 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the uprising. Since then, the festival has became a unique feature in the culture and history of local people and been annually held for three days from March 15 – 17.

Yen The Festival also aims to promote the solidarity tradition, patriotism spirit, and converges traditional and modern cultural values with different and diverse cultural identities to affirm the unique features of the peoples in Yen The district in particular, and Bac Giang province in general toward integration and development, helping preserve ethnic cultural identities.
