Approving project for preservation and promotion values of But Thap pagoda special national relic

Vice Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam signed on Jun 4 the decision No. 848 approving a project for preservation and promotion of values of But Thap pagoda special national relic site in Bac Ninh province.  

Accordingly, the planned area of the project of ​​more than 82,000 m2 covers all constructions belonging to the relic site and an extended land for the construction of auxiliary facilities.

The project aims to manage and protect the national historical and artistic values ​​of But Thap pagoda as a cultural and religious center of Bac Ninh province and surrounding areas, as well as create local tourist routes connecting But Thap pagoda with other relic sites in the province’s localities and in other provinces, such as Tran Dynasty relic site in Quang Ninh province’s Dong Trieu provincial city, Truc Lam Tay Thien Zen monastery in Vinh Phuc province, Vinh Nghiem pagoda, Bo Da pagoda in Bac Giang province, etc., contributing to boost socio-economic development of the province and the connected region.

But Thap pagoda festival is annually held from the 23rd – 24th of the third lunar month

But Thap pagoda or Ninh Phuc pagoda is one of the most beautiful ancient Buddhist pagodas in the Northern Delta. The pagoda was built in the 14th century on an area of ​​​​about 10,000m2 and was ranked a special national relic site by the Prime Minister in 2013.

The pagoda currently preserves four national treasures, including Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Statue with 1,000 arms and 1,000 eyes which has been ranked since 2012, and Three-Buddha statues, Lotus-shaped nine-storey tower, and Stone altar ranked since 2020.
