Deputy Secretary of An Giang provincial Party’s Committee Võ Anh Kiệt led a delegation to visit Cham people at Islamic worshipping places on occasion of Royal Haji festival on August 16.
The delegation visited mosques of Al Ehsan and Sunnah in Da Phuoc commune and Al Rahmah in Vinh Truong commune, An Giang province’s An Phu district
At visiting places, while extending greetings and presenting congratulatory gifts to local Cham Muslim on occasion of the Roya Haji festival, Deputy Secretary Võ Anh Kiệt expressed hope that Cham Muslim dignitaries and followers would continue making practical contributions for the socio-economic development in the locality.
According to the custom of Cham people, in the Roya Haji festival, everyone dress in most beautiful traditional costumes. Men and boys aged 15 and over in the village shall gather in the mosque, shake hands with people and ask for forgiveness and lenience for any bad behavior over the past year. Also, when greeting people in the street, they often say "Am má" (please forgive) and others shall respond the same. So, the first meaning of this festival is the apology and forgiveness.
