Tien Giang province: My Tho city reviews implementation of Party Resolution on religious affairs

On November 13, My Tho city Party Committee held a meeting to review the ten-year implementation of the Resolution 25-NQ/TW of the Party Central Committee on religious affairs.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Secretary of the district Party Committee Nguyễn Văn Hồng and attended by Chairman of the My Tho city People’s Committee Đặng Thanh Liêm and representatives from local authorities.
My Tho city is one of 11 administrative districts of Tien Giang province, with 17 administrative communes located on an area of 8,154.08 ha, with population of about 242,000 people, mostly belonging to Kinh and Chinese, Cham and Khmer origin. Religious followers make up 20% of the total population in the locality. The city has 83 worshipping places belonging to Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Caodaism (Caodai Tay Ninh Church, Caodai Correction Path Church and Caodai Ante-Creation Church) Vietnam Pure-land Buddhist Association and Minh Su faith.
It’s reported that the ten-year implementation of the Party Resolution No 25-NQ/TW on religious affairs in My Tho city achieved specific results:
- Organization of 2 internal disseminating meetings for 223 local officials and 7 refresher training courses on defense - security knowledge and religious tenets organized for 433 religious dignitaries and followers.
- Sending off 53 city–level officials, 367 commune-level officials and 302 village- level officials to training conferences held by the provincial Religious Affairs Committee and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.
- Creating favorable conditions for 15 foreign religious delegations to visit and attend religious ceremonies in the locality and 9 religious dignitaries to study abroad
- Handling 792 religion-related matters, registered the transfer, ordainment and appointment for 67 dignitaries, granting the land use right certificate to 76 out of 83 religious establishments with a total area of 286,660. 13 m2, registering religious activities for 4 Protestants meeting groups.
