Nghi Loc district authorities in Nghe An province held on October 23 a meeting to honor local Catholics for their outstanding contribution in the 2015-2020 period. Distinguished guests at the event included Chairman of the district People’s Committee Nguyễn Tiến Dũng and Priest Chairman of the provincial Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics Nguyễn Đăng Điền.
As reported at the meeting, Catholic communities in Nghi Loc district currently have over 52,000 Catholic followers. In response to movements launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality, local Catholics have made many practical contributions for improving the material and spiritual life in the district. In particularly, local Catholics in the district contributed from VND 200 to 350 million to disadvantaged people each year.
On the occasion, Nghi Loc authorities presented certificates of commendation to 60 outstanding individuals for practical contributions to the development of the locality in the past five years.
Fourteen Catholics were also nominated to attend the upcoming meeting organized by provincial authorities for honoring Catholics with practical contributions to social-economic development at the provincial level.
