The 6th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Phu Tho province was successfully convened on August 24.

The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hà, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Senior Venerable Thích Minh Nghiêm, Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee; and large members of monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists in the province.
Distinguished guests at the event included Director of Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Lê Minh Khánh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hồ Đại Dũng and Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Lê Công Luận.

As reported at the event, Phu Tho province currently has 198 Buddhist monks and nuns, 329 monasteries and one Buddhist centre.
Over the past five years, lay Buddhists in the province have contributed over 18 billion VND to social charities including donations to funds for the poor, the Covid-19 Vaccine, the Orange Dioxide Victims, orphans, etc.
New VBS’s executive committee for the 6th term makes its debut
The congress elected the 31-member VBS’s Executive Committee in the province for the 6th term with Senior Venerable Thích Minh Nghiêm reselected as Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee.
On the occasion, Senior Venerable Thích Minh Nghiêm, Chairman of the provincial VBS Chapter received the Second-class Labor Medal of the Vietnam President and the provincial VBS executive committee was awarded with certificate of merit of the Prime Minister. The central VBS and the province People’s Committee also presented certificates of commendation to Buddhists groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs and social work during the previous term.
