The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Khanh Hoa province successfully held on July 27 its 7th congress (2022-2027 term) with the participation of 200 Buddhist delegates.
The congress taking place in Long Son pagoda located in Nha Trang City saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp, Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Head of Central Committee for Monks Affairs; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Thông, Deputy General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Minh Thông, Acting Chairman of the VBS Executive Committee in Khanh Hoa; Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyễn Khắc Toàn, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Đinh Văn Thiệu.
As reported at the congress, Khanh Hoa province currently has 379 Buddhist worshipping places and over 1,500 monks and nuns.
During the last five years, the VBS chapter in the province successfully hosted the seminar on Dharma propagation in 15 provinces and cities in the Central region and the Buddhist ordination conference in 2019 for 292 nominees, inaugurated of a new campus of Buddhist Intermediate School in the province, established the VBS Executive Board of the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh, appointed nine abbots of pagodas in Truong Sa islands district, and spent over 188 billion VND on social charities, including flood and disaster relief and the Covid-19 prevention.
During the event, the Central VBS presented certificates of merit to 15 groups and 6 individuals of the VBS chapter in Khanh Hoa.
The congress also elected the 63-member VBS executive committee in the province for the 7th term with Most Venerable Thích Minh Thông selected as Head of the VBS executive committee.
