VBS Chapter in Hanoi convenes 9th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Hanoi successfully convened its 9th congress for 2022-2027 term on July 6  at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace.

The congress saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Acting Patriarch of the VBS; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, Deputy President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS Executive Committee in Hanoi, and 600 outstanding monks, nuns and lay Buddhists from the Central VBS and municipal VBS chapter.

Guests at the event included Vice President cum General Secretary of the Central Fatherland Front Committee Lê Tiến Châu, Vice Chairman of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Đỗ Văn Phới, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party’s Committee Nguyễn Thị Tuyến, Standing Vice Chairman in charge of the municipal People's Committee Lê Hồng Sơn, and Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga.

Speaking at the congress, Standing Vice Chairman in charge of the municipal People's Committee Lê Hồng Sơn highlighted practical contributions valued at over 131 billion made by the municipal VBS for social charities in the city in the 8th term, especially  to the, with the total.

The one-day congress reviewed the municipal VBS’s affairs in the 8th term, mapped out working plans for the next tenure, and elected the 69-member VBS executive committee in Hanoi for the 9th term, with Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm re-selected as Head of the VBS executive committee.

During the congress, one Buddhist group and 25 individuals were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS.

In addition, four groups of the municipal VBS chapter were awarded with Third-class Labor Medal, four individuals received the Great National Solidarity Medal of the State President, and other ten individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation of the Prime Minister.

The VBS chapter in Hanoi currently has 30 district-level chapters, 2,028 monks and nuns, and 1,916 Buddhist worshipping places, including many famous and ancient pagodas such as Tran Quoc, Mot Cot, Huong, and Thay, etc.
