Religious organizations’ practical responses to World Environment 2024

Responding to the Action Month for Environment and the World Environment Day (June 5) with the themed “land restoration, desertification and drought resilience”, several religious organizations in localities have organized practical activities for environment protection and climate change adaption.

In Hanoi city, religious organizations in the city attended on June 5 a ceremony to launch practical activities for environment protection and climate change adaption in Dan Phuong district. During the event, representatives from local religious organizations cleared the surrounding, planted trees and released live fish, etc.

In Thai Nguyen province, the model “religious community joins environment protection and climate change adaption” was formally launched on June 5 at a ceremony in Phu Cuong Catholic parish located in Phu Cuong commune of Dai Tu district. At the gathering, participating delegates and local residents cleared surroundings, planted 300 trees, collected and classified wastes in the campus of Phu Cuong Church and residential areas in Van Cuong 3 village of Phu Cuong commune.

Thai Nguyen province has currently three major religions of Catholicism, Buddhism and Protestantism with over 134,000 followers.

In Nghe An province, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee city in collaboration with the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee and the provincial Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics held on June 4 a ceremony to mark the World Environment Day June 5 and launch the pilot model on environment protection and climate change adaption at An Thai Pagoda in Quynh Luu district’s Quynh Long commune.

After the launching ceremony, participants who are local cadres and religious followers have cleaned the environment surroundings, collected waste at the coastal area of Quynh Long commune and planted trees at campus of An Thai Pagoda.

In Lang Son province, local authorities in collaboration with the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee held on June 1 a ceremony for releasing live fish in the natural environment on the occasion of the World Environment Day (June 5) and the World Ocean Day (June 8).
