The reconstruction of Tien Dai Pagoda located in Tien Thuy commune of Ben Tre province’s Chau Thanh district was formally kicked off at a solemn ceremony held on May 17.

Attending the event included Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn, Member of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee; Most Venerable Thích Như Niệm, Member of the provincial VBS’s Discernment Committee; Senior Venerable Thích Trí Thọ, Member of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee, and large numbers of monks, nuns, lay Buddhists, and sponsors in localities.
Tien Dai pagoda was built in 1837 by Monk Thích Nguyên Phước and Monk Thích Tịnh Quang, and has been upgraded three times in 1960, 1972 and 1994. As the pagoda has seriously degraded after a long time of existence and no longer met current religious needs of local Buddhists, Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn has initiated the reconstruction of the pagoda.
