The Buddhist documentation center under the Institute of Vietnam Buddhist Studies was formally established at a ceremony held on September 22 in Dai Tu An pagoda located in Hanoi’s Dan Phuong district.

Present at the event included Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang and Most Venerable Thích Quảng Tùng, Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Executive Council; and Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Lê Minh Khánh.
According to Senior Venerable Abbot of Dai Tu An pagoda cum Head of the Buddhist documentation center Thích Tiến Đạt, the documentation center aims to collect and preserve Buddhist documents from places across the country and abroad, in order to promote values of Buddhist documentation heritages in Vietnam.

As reported, during the history of Vietnam, each dynasty has left its own marks on the formation and development of Buddhism in the country, including Buddhist scriptures, architectures, arts, and Dharma tools. This Buddhist resource needs a documentation center for the preservation, research and promotion of its values.
The center will not only meet demands of domestic scholars and pagodas but also attract international communities for research and exploration.
Speaking at the event, Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang extended congratulations to the Buddhist documentation center as well as asked the center to proactively join the collection, reproduction, archeology, preservation, research and exploitation of Buddhist data and documents, starting with the Buddhist documentary resources from Northern provinces of the country.
