New bishop of Thai Binh diocese formally takes office

Pope Francis on Oct 29, 2022 appointed Priest Dominic Đặng Văn Cầu as Bishop of Thai Binh diocese, replacing tired Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ.

Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ performs ordainment rituals to new Bishop

The formal ceremony for his ordainment took place on December 31, 2022 in Thai Binh Cathedral diocese in the presence of Archbishop Marek Zalewski,   the Vatican's non-resident Special Envoy to Vietnam and 27 archbishops and bishops of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam, representatives from local authorities and a large number of Catholic followers.

The event was presided by Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ, Bishop of Phu Cuong diocese Joseph Nguyễn Tấn Tước and Bishop of Long Xuyen diocese Joseph Trần Văn Toản.

During the ceremony, Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ performed ordainment rituals and extended congratulations to the new bishop of Thai Binh Đặng Văn Cầu.

Concluding the event, Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Năng, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam cum Archbishop of Ho Chi Minh city Archdiocese offered his blessings to Bishop Dominic Đặng Văn Cầu and expressed that the new Bishop of Thai Binh diocese promote fine heritages of the diocese.

Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Năng also highly appreciated practical contributions made by Bishop Peter Nguyễn Văn Đệ for new developments of the diocese which include the constructions of the Cathedral diocese, pastoral centre and Thanh Tam Major Seminary and the establishment of four deaneries and 33 parishes under the diocese, etc.
