Congress of Catholics for national construction & defense in Dak Nong convened

The 4th congress of Catholics for national construction and defense in Dak Nong province for 2022-2027 tenure was successfully held on October 10 in Gia Nghia city.

At the congress

The event saw the presence of Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hồ Văn Mười and Priest Joseph Trần Xuân Mạnh, President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics.

The congress selected 79 members to the Catholic Solidarity Committee in Dak Nong for the 2022 – 2027 tenure with Priest Joseph Nguyễn Văn Khánh selected as Head of the Committee.

As reported, over the past five years, Catholic communities in the province have contributed over 17 billion VND to social charities and nearly 3 billion VND for repairing 36 houses and building 41 charity houses to the poor and ethnic minority people in the locality.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, local parishioners have supplied 83 shipments of essential goods, worth over 2 billion VND, and donated cash to people in Ho Chi Minh city, Binh Duong, Bien Hoa and Dong Nai province.

Local Catholics have also contributed cash, lands, and working days for building rural roads. In particular, Catholics of Trung Nghia parish and local authorities has built 700 m of concrete inner-village roads; lay parishioners in villages of Xuan Tinh 2 and 3 have donated over 900 million VND to build 1.8 km of rural roads; parishioners in Tho Hoang parish have built 4km of concrete inner-village roads, worth 4 billion VND; parishioners in Duc Hanh and Xuan Loc contributed over 2 billion VND and hundreds of working days for building concrete roads.

On the occasion, the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics presented certificates of commendation to one Catholic group and one individual for their outstanding contributions. Catholic groups and individuals also received certificates of merit from local authorities for their contributions in local movements during the 2017-2022 tenure.
