Catholic community practically contributes to Covid-19 prevention work and strictly implements health sector’s recommendations

In response to calls of authorities and President of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam for supporting to the Covid-19 prevention work, for recent days, dioceses, parishes, dignitaries and lay Catholics in the country have practically contributed to the Covid-19 epidemic’s prevention and control.  

Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese’s office has launched a Catholic charity team for supporting to the medical force and disadvantaged people in the city. Up to now, there were 430 clergymen and clergywomen joint the team and many of them have been assigned to serve in field hospitals for Covid-19 treatment.

In Dong Nai province, a Bishop professor at Xuan Loc Major Seminary, four priests, and 110 clergymen and clergywomen have been participating with local authorities to support the prevention and control of Covid-19 epidemic in the province.

Besides donating necessities to people in Ho Chi Minh City and epidemic-hit provinces, several dioceses and parishes continued asking parishioners to strictly implement epidemic prevention measures in pastoral activities and religious activities.

Vinh Archdiocese’s office issued on July 20 a formal announcement to normalize Catholic mass and pastoral activities in the new situation. However, inter-parish and deanery-level activities were still suspended, and Sunday Mass needed to be held in community instead of parishes to limit the number of attendees.

The Archdiocese also asked dignitaries and followers to continue strictly implementing the 5K recommendation for Covid-19 prevention, and required those returning from localities imposed with social distancing or having Covid-19 cases to comply the isolation measure and medical declaration.
