The 8th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Dak Lak province was successfully held in September 27.

Present at the event included Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Lê Minh Khánh, Member of the Provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Huỳnh Thị Chiến Hòa, Chairwoman of the Commission for Mass Mobilization cum Head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Committee in the province H’Kim Hoa Bya, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Võ Văn Cảnh.

As reviewed at the congress, Dak Lak province currently has 192 Buddhist worshipping places with nearly 190,000 Buddhists. In the last term, the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province has encouraged Buddhist followers to actively engage in movements launched for promoting rural areas development, national security and environment protection, and contributed nearly 143 billion VND to the social charity works.

The event elected 60 members to the VBS’s executive committee in the province for the 2022 – 2027 tenure, with Most Venerable Thích Châu Quang was reselected as the Committee Chairman.

Members of 8th provincial VBS’s executive committee make its debut

On the occasion, the VBS’ Central Executive Council presented certificates of merit to one Buddhist group and 30 Buddhist followers, the People’s Committee in the province handed over certificates of recommendation to 11 groups and two individuals, and the provincial VFF praised one group and two individuals for practical contributions in Buddhist affairs during the 2017-2022 tenure.
