The Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in Da Nang city held the 7th congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense fof 2022-2027 tenure on July 19.

The event saw the presence of Priest President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics Joseph Trần Xuân Mạnh, Chairman of the city Party’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Lê Văn Trung, Chairman of the city Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Ngô Xuân Thắng, and representatives from Da Nang diocese.
The congress selected 70 members to the Catholic Solidarity Committee in the city for the 2022 – 2027 tenure with Priest Peter Nguyễn Hùng reselected as the Head of the Board.
As reported at the event, Da Nang city currently has one bishop, one retired bishop, 62 priests, nearly 300 sisters and over 53,700 parishioners.

During the past five years, Catholics in the city have proactively made practical contributions to social charities with the total value of tens of billions VND. In particular, the St. Paul de Charter Congregation in Da Nang city has offered free health-check and medicines to over 14,500 patients; Da Nang diocese’s office, St. Paul congregation, Lovely Holy Cross congregation, parishes and sub-parishes have donated foods, drinks, facemasks, sanitizers and cash, worth 755 million VND in total, to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; the charity board under the Catholic solidarity committee in the city gathered supports and donations for presenting 3,000 facemasks, 10,000 bottles of milk, 500 hand sanitizers, 100 helmets, 50 umbrellas, and 500 notebooks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
