The Representative Committee under the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (ECVN) (South) in Kien Giang province held on November 11 a ceremony to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Protestantism in the province.
The event taking place at Tan Hiep evangelical church saw the presence of Pastor President of the ECVN (South) Thái Phước Trường; Pastor Nguyễn Bình Tín, Commissioner of the ECVN in charge of pastoral affairs in Kien Giang province; representatives from the ECVN’s representative committees in neighboring localities; and large numbers of evangelical communities in Kien Giang and neighboring provinces.
As reported at the event, Protestantism was brought to Kien Giang province in 1922. After 100 years of development, Kien Giang province has currently 15 evangelical chapters and 10 Protestant congregations.
On the same day, over 350 key members who are pastors, missionaries, deacons and representatives from H’mong evangelical chapters in Dak Lak province’s Krong Bong district have participated in the spiritual refreshment program.
Joining the event included Pastor Phan Quang Thiệu, Vice President of the ECVN (South), Pastor Huỳnh Cường, Commissioner of the ECVN in charge of pastoral affairs in Dak Lak.
Since 1996, evangelical followers belonging to H’mong ethnic group in North region have migrated to Dak Lak. Since then, seven chapters and three congregations in Krong Bong district have been established with nearly 14,000 followers, one pastor, six commissioned pastors and five missionaries.
