A formal decision for Vietnam to host the United Nations Day of Vesak 2019 has been signed during a meeting of the International Council for the Day of Vesak (ICDV).
At the meeting
During the meeting taking place in Thailand’s Ayutthaya city, Most Venerable Professor Dr. Phra Brahmapundit, Chairman of the ICDV cum Rector of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand signed the decision for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2019 to be held on May 12-14, 2019 by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Tam Chuc pagoda located in the plain northern province of Ha Nam.
The VBS’s representatives at the meeting included Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Senior Venerable Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam VBS Thích Đức Thiện, Senior Venerable Deputy Head of the VBS’s Committee for International Buddhist Affairs Thích Nhật Từ, Senior Venerable Deputy Head of the VBS’s Information and Communication Committee Thích Minh Nhẫn and Professor former co-Chairman of International Organizing Committee for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2008 Lê Mạnh Thát.
At the meeting, the ICVD and the VBS’s leaders also discussed and approved the main theme of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2019 as “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibility for Sustainable Society”.
As reported, the preparatory meeting on contents and related programs of the United Nations Vesak 2019 Celebration will be held in Hanoi on October 11-12, 2018.
