Pope Francis sends letter of condolences to Vietnam

Vatican announced on July 23 a telegram of Pope Francis on his condolences for the death of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyễn Phú Trọng.

The telegram signed by Cardinal of the Holy See's Secretary of State Pietro Parolin was sent to General Tô Lâm, State President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In the telegram message, Pope Francis sends condolences to all who mourn his loss, especially his family, together with the assurance of his prayers for their consolation and peace. With particular appreciation for the late General Secretary's role in fostering and promoting the positive development of the relations between Vietnam and the Holy See, the Pope expressed his spiritual closeness to the Vietnam President and to all his fellow citizens at this time of sorrow for the nation.
