Vietnam, Cambodia strengthen religious co-operation

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Phạm Dũng and Minister of Cambodia’s Ministry of Cults and Religions Min Khin co-chaired a working meeting and signed a new cooperation agreement on Feb. 2 in Ho Chi Minh city.

 

Overview of the meeting

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the religious situation in each country, shared their experience in state management of religious affairs, and reviewed the implementation of the 2007 Memorandum of Understanding between the GCRA and the Cambodia’s Ministry of Cults and Religions.

Results of co-operation activities between the two state bodies on religious affairs over the past years contributed to consolidate the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation from the Cambodia’s Ministry of Cults and Religions and spoke highly of two agencies' co-operation over the past years.

During the working meeting, the GCRA and the Cambodia’s Ministry of Cults and Religions signed a cooperation agreement on religious affairs for 2015 - 2020 period, replacing the Memorandum of Understanding reached in 2007. Given contents of the new agreement, the two sides will strengthen exchanges, promote academic training and support cooperative activities between the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Cambodian Buddhist Sangha.

On occasion of Vietnam visit from Feb 2-4, the Cambodian delegation visited religious establishments in Ho Chi Minh city.
