Vietnam Buddhist Sangha receives US Embassy delegation

Senior Venerable Vice Chairman cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee Thích Đức Thiện hosted on March 13 a reception for visiting Counselor Noah Zaring of the US Embassy in Hanoi.

During the reception, Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện shared with the guest the Buddhist life in the country, as well as functions and the organizational structure of the Vietnam Buddhist church.

According to the Senior Venerable, Vietnam Buddhism currently has over 15,000 worshipping places, four Buddhist institutes located in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Can Tho and Hue, and over 48,000 Buddhist monks and nuns.

Regarding, the UN Day of Vesak to take place for the third time in Vietnam from May 12-15 in Tam Chuc pagoda, Ha Nam province, the Buddhist dignitary informed that the event is expected to attract 3,000 delegates who are Buddhist leaders, scholars and researchers from over 100 nations and territories.

During the reception, Counselor Noah Zaring had exchanges with the host several issues related to the operation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
