A chapter under the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) was formally established in Maputo capital of the Republic of Mozambique at a solemn ceremony held on October 27.
The ceremony was attended by Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Senior Venerable General Secretary of VBS Thích Đức Thiện, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Nguyễn Văn Trung and Head of the Department of Religious Affairs under the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs of Mozambique Arao Litsuri.
During the event, Head of the Department of Religious Affairs Arao Litsuri presented the decision recognizing the legal entity of the Vietnam Buddhist chapter in the Republic of Mozambique with 26 registered members. On this occasion, the VBS chapter received 43.000 ha of land for building Truc Lam Mozambique Pagoda, which, once completed, will be served as Mozambique's first Buddhist center.
