A seminar on history of Korean and Vietnamese Buddhism was jointly held by the Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and Academy of Buddhist Studies under Dongguk University on April 5.
Attending the event included Professor Ko Young Seop, Director of the Korean academy, Senior Venerable Deputy Director of the Vietnam Buddhist institute Thích Nhật Từ, students from Dongguk University including overseas Vietnamese, and about 40 participating Vietnamese monks, nuns and Buddhists.
During the seminar, Senior Venerable Thích Nhật Từ introduced stages of the history of the Vietnam Buddhism and Dr. Lecturer from Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Thị Thu Hiền presented similarities and differences between Buddhism in Vietnam and in Korea.
This is the first seminar of its kind held by the Vietnam Buddhist Institute and Dongguk University and it attracted large interests from both sides. Nun Giác Lệ Hiếu, a Vietnamese research student in Dongguk University, made valuable contributions to the success of the event.
The seminar aimed to provide a better understanding of Buddhism in the two countries and create momentum for future cooperation between the two sides.
