Seminar on engaged Buddhism, social issues held in Ninh Binh

An international seminar with the theme “Engaged Buddhism and Contemporary Social Issues” was held on December 8-9 in Ninh Binh province marking the first anniversary of Tran Nhan Tong Institute.

The event was co-organized by Tran Nhan Tong Institute under Vietnam National University (VNU) in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) and its Chapter in Ninh Binh province and attended by over 200 participants who are scholars from Vietnam and overseas, state officials from concerning ministries and agencies, social activists, monks, nuns and followers.

The seminar drew nearly 100 papers from scholars in Vietnam and aboard including the U.S, Japan and China. The papers focused on three main aspects of engaged Buddhism and contemporary social issues: thought and knowledge; engaged Buddhism and social issues in the region and in the world and Buddhism and social issues in Vietnam.
