President Nguyễn made the call on Wednesday during his reception for the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry who is on a visit to Viet Nam from February 22-25.

Viet Nam is doubling efforts to put an end to coal-fired power generation by 2050, stressed the Vietnamese President.

At the COP26, Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính affirmed that Viet Nam pledges to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

"We will make use of our own domestic resources, along with the cooperation and support of the international community, especially from the developed countries, in terms of finance and technology, including through mechanisms under the Paris Agreement, in order to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050," stated Prime Minister Phạm.

Phạm emphasized that climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building play a critical role in ensuring the success of the Paris Agreement.

From that perspective, developed countries need to fully meet their existing financial commitments, said Phạm.

He went on to say: "As one of the countries most affected by climate change, Viet Nam is making every effort to both respond to climate change and foster economic development to grow and ensure an ever-better life for its people, while contributing responsibly alongside the international community".

* During his stay in Viet Nam, John Kerry also met with Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Bình Minh, and Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission Trần Tuấn Anh./.
