Pope appoints new Archbishop of Hanoi Archdiocese

According to the Vatican Press Office on November 17, Pope Francis has received a letter of resignation from Cardinal Peter Nguyễn Văn Nhơn, Former Archbishop of Hanoi Archdiocese, and named Bishop of Hai Phong diocese Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên as New Archbishop of Hanoi Archdiocese.

Archbishop Vũ Văn Thiên was born in 1960 at Ke Sat parish, Hai Duong province. He was ordained as a priest in 1988.  He completed his studies at the Catholic Institute of Paris in 2000. In 2002, he was named Bishop of Hai Phong diocese.

Since 2007, Archbishop Joseph Vũ Văn Thiên has served as Head of the Commission for Youth under the Catholic Bishops Conference of Vietnam and Deputy Secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Vietnam for 2016-2019 tenure.
