New Bishop of Vinh Diocese: strengthening dialogues for smoothly solving differences and promoting Catholic contributions

New Bishop of Vinh diocese Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long officially took his duties as the top dignitary of the diocese at a ceremony held on February 12.

The event taking place in Xa Doan Church located in Nghe An province’s Nghi Loc district saw the participation of Archbishop Marek Zalewski, Holy See’s Non-residential Envoy to Vietnam, 32 bishops, 460 priests from two dioceses of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, and over ten thousands of Catholic followers.

During the ceremony, Archbishop Marek Zalewski presented the Vatican’s appointment decision to Bishop Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long. The new Bishop expressed his desire for strengthening exchanges and dialogues with local authorities for smoothly solving any differences as well as promoting mutual respect, understanding and unity, so as local Catholics can contribute more to socio-economic development in the locality

Pope Francis on December 22 announced the establishment of Ha Tinh diocese from part of Vinh diocese and the appointment of Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp and Bishop Alfonso Nguyễn Hữu Long as top dignitaries Ha Tinh and Vinh dioceses respectively.
