Laos cremates Buddhist association leader

A cremation ceremony was held in Vientiane on Sunday for Most Venerable Pra Maha Phong Samaleuk, President of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation, who died at the age of 101.

Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council, led a Vietnamese delegation to the event.

Deputy Prime Minister Phankham Viphavan underlined the significant contributions of the deceased to Laos’s revolutionary cause and nation building, strengthening national solidarity, and developing the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation.

He said over the past 88 years, Most Venerable Pra Maha Phong Samaleuk took the lead in protecting, preserving and promoting the country’s traditional customs and Buddhism, while making remarkable contributions to the external relations between Laos and other countries.
