Home Affairs Deputy Minister receives delegation from international organization committee for UN Day of Vesak

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa hosted on October 12 a reception for visiting Most Venerable Dhammaratana Vice Chairman of the International Organizing Committee (IOC) for the UN Day of Vesak.

Joining the reception also included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng.

During the reception, Deputy Minister Nguyễn Trọng Thừa spoke highly of IOC’s support and assistance extended to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Given results of the first preparatory meeting, he expressed hope that the IOC would help the VBS with necessary preparations for the successful UN Day of Vesak 2019 in Vietnam.

Speaking with the host, Most Venerable Dhammaratana expressed his belief that given experiences in successfully hosting the UN Day of Vesak 2008 and 2014, and supports from the Vietnam Government, the UN Day of Vesak 2019 will be successful held in Vietnam, contributing to promote international Buddhist exchanges. He also praised contributions of Vietnamese Buddhism to sustainable development and prosperity in the country.
