Ho Chi Minh city: US Consulate General visits VBS central Office

Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Council received a US Consulate General delegation on March 6 at the VBS Southern Office (Quang Duc monastery) in Ho Chi Minh city.

The US seven-member delegation was led by Mr. Franc Shelton, Head of Ante-Counterfeiting Section of the Consulate General.

During the meeting reception, Mr. Franc Shelton expressed his thanks to the VBS for the verification of documents presented by Vietnamese Buddhist monks and nuns in their application to obtain visa for studying and practicing Buddhism in the US. He said this verification is of importance in the process of granting visas for applied Vietnamese Buddhists.

The US representative also informed that currently many Buddhist temples in the US are willing and ready to assist Vietnamese Buddhists while staying in the country, and the US Government always encourage religious dignitaries to visit the country.

In speaking to the guests, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn informed the guests that the Buddhist Church has sent a message to the VBS in provinces and cities across the country stating that Buddhist monks or nuns wishing to visit the US for Buddhist purposes must obtain documents verified by the Church.

The Buddhist dignitary also expressed his hope that the US Consulate General would continue creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese monks and nuns wishing to visit the US for Buddhist studies and practices.
