Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam Sampath Prasanna Walpita Gamage on January 11 visited and met with Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council.
Attending the welcome reception at Minh Dao pagoda located in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 3 included Senior Venerable Thích Nhật Từ, Vice Chairman of the central VBS’s International Buddhist Affairs Department.
During the visit, Ambassador Sampath Prasanna Walpita Gamage mentioned the close and friendly relation between the two countries’ Buddhism and expressed hope to co-organize a seminar on Buddhism in 2021 for strengthening the Buddhist relation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
Speaking with the guest, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn took the chance to thank Sri Lanka for supporting the successful organization of the UN Day of Vesak 2019 in Ha Nam province.
He also expressed that, when the Covid-19 epidemic to be under control, the VBS would report to the Government and plan to co-organize the seminar on Buddhism of the two countries, practically contributing to foster the Buddhist relation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
