7th Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions convened in Kazakhstan

The 7th Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions was officially opened on September 14-15 in Nur Sultan capital of Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of 100 delegations from 60 countries with over 3,000 religious followers from countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, etc and neighboring countries.

The event focused on the role of leaders of world and traditional religions in the spiritual and social development of humankind in the post-Covid-19 period, the promotion of global inter-religious dialogue and peace against violence, conflict, war, poverty and climate change.

Four main topics discussed during the congress included roles of religions in fostering spiritual and moral values in the world; roles of education in enhancing coexistence of religions and cultures; contributions of religious leaders in promoting global inter-religious dialogue, and peace; and women’s contribution to well-being and sustainable development  society.

Speaking at the congress, Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Central Executive Council highlighted roles of religious leaders in solving together current global issues. He urged the promotion of inter-religious unity and cooperation for fostering tolerance and compassion, in order to better care for humanity after the Covid-19 pandemic, enhancing dialogue and mutual understanding for seeking solutions to end violence, conflict, war, terrorism, poverty, and joining hands against climate change adaption and epidemics.

Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện affirmed that throughout history, religions in Vietnam has always lived harmony. The Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha always promotes the spirit of harmony with all religious traditions contributing to create strength for overcoming all difficulties and pandemics.

At the end of the Congress, the Final Declaration with 35 articles was officially adopted, highlighting the importance of shared values in the spiritual and social development of humankind.
