14th Secretarial meeting for Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace held in Vietnam

The 14th Secretarial meeting for the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP) was held at the Vietnam Buddhist Institute on October 7 in Ho Chi Minh city.

The event aimed to discuss a number of specific issues related to the organization, personnel, delegates and preparation works for the 12th ABCP General Assembly (the 2023-2026 tenure).

The meeting drew representatives of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and high-ranking Buddhist dignitaries from Bangladesh, Mongolia, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Russia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Religions for Peace in Japan, etc.

Distinguished guests at the event included representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the Central Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Ho Chi Minh city municipal authorities.

For the past years, the ABCP has made practical contributions for strengthening global peace, solidarity and cooperation among the Buddhist Sanghas, Buddhist traditions, peoples and governments of countries in the region and the world, as well as brought initiatives and supports in order to fulfill the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), a member of the ABCP, has made practical contributions in all aspects for the ABCP to perform well its role as a bridge between governments and peoples for peace and prosperity in the region.

The one-day event discussed the draft ABCP Development Plan for the 2024-2026 period, and the preparation for the 12th General Assembly, and approved the ABCP 2023 Declaration with seven points.

On the occasion, the ABCP National Center for environmental protection and climate change adaption in Vietnam was officially launched and its office located in the second branch of the Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh city.

As reported, The VBS has successfully organized the ABCP’s secretarial meeting in Bai Dinh Pagoda in Ninh Binh province in 2019 and Ven. Thích Đức Thiện, Vice President cum General Secretary of the VBS’s Central Executive Council, currently serves as Vice Chairman of the ABCP.
