The fifth annual conference of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council for the tenure 2017-2022 took place on January 18 at the VBS’s Southern Office.
The conference saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Trí Quảng, Deputy Patriarch of the VBS; Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the central VBS’s executive council, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Pháp and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Chairmen of the VBS’s executive council, and members of the VBS’s discernment council and executive council.
Guests at the event included Deputy Minister of the Home Affairs in charge of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice Chairwoman of the government religious committee Trần Thị Minh Nga, and representatives from concerning central agencies and the municipall authorities of Ho Chi Minh City.
The annual conference discussed draft reports on the VBS’s affairs in 2020 and plans set for 2021.
During the conference, members of the VBS’s discernment council and executive council nominated Most Venerable Thích Hiển Tu, Deputy Secretary of the VBS’s discernment council as Deputy Patriarch of the VBS, as well as approved the list of ordinated dignitaries including 90 most venerables, 180 senior venerables, 80 superior nuns, and 290 fully-ordained nuns.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng extended congratulations to achievements in the VBS’s affairs in 2020 and highlighted contributions made by the VBS to the Covid-19 epidemic prevention.
He also had exchanges on major issues related to the VBS’s affairs in 2021, contributing to affirm a pioneering and active role in accompanying with the country, given many anticipated for this year challenges and opportunities.
