Delegation of Home Affairs Ministry and Government Religious Committee meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Joining the delegation included Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Hoài Bắc.

In the country, the delegation had working sessions with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland, and the General Department of Home Affairs and Justice of the Cantonal Government of Bern.

At the visit to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng met and had exchanges with Deputy High Commissioner Nada al-Nashif.

During the meeting, the deputy minister informed about the religious life and the State policies and laws on religion in Vietnam, and stated that the State of Vietnam always consistently implements the policy of ensuring religious freedom and equality. The policy has been institutionalized by the Constitution, the Law on Belief and Religion 2016 and its guiding decree, and other relating laws, he added.

Meeting with UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Nada al-Nashif

While highly appreciating the Vietnam official’s frank exchanges on religious life and policies in Vietnam, Deputy High Commissioner Nada al-Nashif informed that Vietnam’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) national report has been approved by the Working Group on the UPR cycle IV of the United Nations Human Rights Council, as well as expressed her willingness to support Vietnam in issues related to religion in the coming time.

Visiting General Department of Home Affairs and Justice of Bern’s Cantonal Government

At the meeting with the General Department of Home Affairs and Justice of the Cantonal Government of Bern, the two sides had exchanges on experiences on state governance of religion.
