The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in Nam Dinh province successfully held its 10th congress for the 2022-2027 tenure on January 14.

The event taking place at Truc Lam Thien Truong pagoda saw the presence of Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS Thích Thanh Đàm, Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, and Most Venerable Standing Deputy President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu.
Guests at the congress included Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga, Deputy Director of the Religious Affairs Department under the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Đinh Thị Xuân Trang, and Vice Chairman of Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee Trân Lê Đoài.

The Buddhist congress approved nine key tasks of the VBS chapter for the 2022-2027 tenure, and nominated a 43-member VBS executive committee for the next five years, with Most Venerable Thích Quảng Hà re-elected as Chairman of the VBS executive committee in the province in the new tenure.

As reported, during the past five years, the VBS chapter in Nam Dinh has spent over 75 billion on social charities including building 75 charity houses, sending relief supplies to flood-hit victims, building bridges for mountainous people, presenting scholarships to disadvantaged pupils, sending supports to agent orange victims and poor locals, etc.
Regarding to the Covid-19 prevention work, 20 monks in Nam Dinh have volunteered to support the frontline medical forces for the Covid-19 treatment in Ho Chi Minh City and Long An province in 2021.
During the event, 12 Buddhist groups, 22 Buddhist individuals, 20 monks in the province with outstanding contributions in the Covid-19 prevention work were awarded with certificates of merit by the Central VBS, and 9 Buddhist groups and 11 Buddhist individuals were presented by the provincial People’s Committee.
