From July 24 to July 26, 2013, President Truong Tan Sang and a high-ranking delegation from the Vietnamese State paid an official visit to the United States at the invitation of President Barack Obama.
Joining the delegationwere Mr. Pham Dzung, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, and Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, and religious dignitaries.
Besides the official activities of the delegation, religious dignitaries had useful separate working sessions with officials of the US Department of State, US congressmen, and representatives of several non-governmentalorganizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch…. The Vietnamese delegation frankly exchanged views on issues of US concern as well as Vietnam’s achievements in religious affairs, helping individuals and organizations in the United States have more comprehensive understanding about religious freedom in particular and human rights in general in Vietnam.
