Representatives from the Church of Latter-Day Saints visit Government Committee for Religious Affairs

On October 9, 2013, Mr. Pham Dzung, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs received representatives of the Church of Latter-Day Saints (LDS or Mormon Church) led by Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng.

Also attending the reception were Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice Chairman of the Committee, as well as leaders and officials from the Committee Office and Department of Protestant Affairs.

 

At the event, Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng briefed his host on the characteristics and activities of the Mormon Church in Vietnam, stressing that Mormon followers always obey the law. Mr. Pham Dzung applauded the Mormon community’s healthy religious life and respect for the law and affirmed that the Party, State and Government always pay attention to creating conditions for religious organizations, including the Mormon Church, to operate in accordance with the law and accompany the nation.

After the reception, the Committee’s Department of Protestant Affairs provided the delegation with procedures to establish the Interim Representative Board of the Mormon Church in Vietnam. Once it is set up, the board will operate under its regulations towards the registration of religious activities and recognition of religious organization in accordance with the law.
