On June 4, nearly 1,000 women who are members of the Women Union and religious women from 10 provinces of the Red River Delta region attended a gathering held in response to the World Environmental Day 2016.
The event was co-organized by the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) and the Vietnam Women’s Union to mark the World Environmental Day on June 5, as well as to support provinces affected by drought and salt intrusion as part of a program launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee.
The meeting saw participation of Vice Chairman of the GCRA Dương Ngọc Tấn, Chairman of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Vice President of the VFF Central Committee Lê Bá Trình, and representatives of the Central and local concerning authorities.
Chairman of Vietnam Women’s Union speaks at meeting
Speaking at the event, Chairman Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà encouraged religious women in the Red River Delta to actively participate in activities for environment protection, including plastic bag restriction, energy and water saving, application of environmental-friendly solutions in business production and services, and restriction of pesticides in agricultural production.
During the meeting, the Vietnam Women’s union launched a campaign for supporting women in provinces affected by drought and salt intrusion in response to the same movement called upon earlier by the VFF Central Committee.
On this occasion, a photo gallery with the theme “Vietnamese women protect environment and build new-model rural countryside” was held by the Vietnam Women’s Union. Photos at the gallery contributed to reflect impacts of climate change in Vietnam, as well as roles that women including religious women can play in environment protection and climate change adaptation.
