Political Counsellor of Canada visits Government Religious Committee

On Oct. 16, Mrs. Monique Lamoureux, Political and Public Affairs Counsellor from Canada Embassy visited the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) at its headquarter in Cau Giay district, Hanoi city.

Welcoming the guest was Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thành Hà and representatives of the GCRA Departments for International Relation and Legislation, Inspection Affairs.

During the meeting reception, the GCRA official and Canada Embassy diplomat exchanged on numbers of religion-related issues, including the draft law on belief and religion and its legislative drafting process. Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always respect and guarantee the right to freedom of belief and religion for every people.

Regarding the draft of law on belief and religion, Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà shared that its 5th draft has been completed and it will be submitted to the National Assembly for the first consideration on November 6, 2015, and approval of this law is expected to be decided in October, 2016.

The GCRA’s Vice Chairman stated that, as Vietnam is highly appreciated for its religious diversity, making a law to ensure religious freedom for all different religions and organizations in Vietnam is not a simple work.

Speaking at the visiting reception, Mrs. Monique Lamoureux thanked the GCRA for its welcome and information about religion in Vietnam, and expressed for more exchanges on religious issues in the coming time.
