The Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs held on October 25 a meeting for honoring 36 nuns of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) for their outstanding contributions to the country.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Hoài Bắc, and joined by the GCRA’s Vice Chairwoman Trần Thị Minh Nga and Superior Nun Thích nữ Nhật Khương, Head of the VBS’s Sub-committee for Nun Affairs
Speaking at the event, GCRA’s Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc praised practical contributions made by the Buddhist nuns to local communities and the country, especially the effective collaboration between VBS’s Nun Affairs Sub-committee and authorities at all levels in providing social welfares for the disadvantaged over the past years.

He highlighted effort of Buddhist nuns in the country in mobilizing resources and implementing humanitarian activities such as nurturing orphans and disabled children, taking care of lonely elderly people, organizing oriental medicine clinics for free medical examination and treatment to poor patients, providing free meals for disadvantaged people, presenting scholarships to disadvantaged pupils, building charity houses and rural bridges, etc. with the total value of trillions of VND.
Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc affirmed that Vietnamese Party and State consistently implement the policy of respecting and ensuring the freedom of belief and religion of the people, and the GCRA always supports and creates favorable conditions to promote their role in the social life for religious organizations in general, the VBS in particular. The GCRA’s leader expressed hope that under the leadership of the VBS’s Central Executive Council, Buddhist nuns would continue accompanying with the country and promoting their roles in guiding lay Buddhist followers to practice religion in accordance with the state laws and practically contribute to socio-economic development in the country.
The GCRA would continue guiding, supporting and creating favorable conditions to the VBS’s Nuns Affairs Sub-committee so that they can perform best in patriotic emulation movements, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc added.
At the meeting, Superior Nun Thích nữ Nhật Khương took the chance to thank the GCRA for favorable conditions extended to Buddhist affairs of the VBS’s Nun Affairs Sub-Committee over the past years, and affirmed that the Vietnamese nuns would go along with the VBS to promote fine traditions of Vietnamese Buddhism and practically contribute to the national development.
