The joint-working group set up for helping for to help the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) hosting the United Nations Day of Vesak 2019 in Vietnam held its second on February 25 in Hanoi.

The event taking place at the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA)’s headquarters was chaired by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa cum Chairman of the joint-working group and attended by Chairman of GCRA cum Vice Chairman of the working group Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Executive Council Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, and members of the working group representing concerning ministries, agencies and localities.

The meeting focused on key contents of the master plan for the UN Day of Vesak 2019 to be successfully hosted in Vietnam northern province of Ha Nam, such as proposed delegates list, coordination plans of concerning ministries and Ha Nam provincial government, and specific tasks for the Buddhist sangha and Xuan Truong corp. as the main sponsor of the UN Buddhist event. As reported at the meeting, this master plan has received feedbacks from eight out of 11 concerning competent state authorities.

During the meeting, Chairman of the government religious committee Vũ Chiến Thắng asked the VBS for a close coordination with the International Committee for the UN Day Vesak (ICDV) so as to early finalize the list of Buddhist delegates overseas and foreign guests, especially those who are country leaders and top politicians, and inform the working group and the ministry of foreign affairs for further guidance and support.
For hosting facilities in Tam Chuc Pagoda located in Ha Nam, Xuan Truong Construction Company affirmed that the company has been completing the construction of hosting and supporting facilities and will hand over these completed works to the organization committee in time for the event to be held in May.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyễn Trọng Thừa assigned the government religious committee as the focal point for coordinated efforts of guiding and supporting the Vietnam Buddhist church toward the successful hosting of the UN Buddhist event.
As reported earlier, the working group held its first meeting in Tam Chuc Pagoda located in Ha Nam on January 14 to check preparations and tasks assigned by the Prime Minister for assisting the hosting of the UN Day of Vesak by the VBS.
