Ho Chi Minh city: Religious dignitaries attend meeting for promoting civilized lifestyles, socio-economic development

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held a conference on boosting civilized lifestyles and socio-economic development in Ho Chi Minh city on December 14.

The conference was held with the theme on boosting “Religion and propagation, mobilization to promote cultural, civilized lifestyles and socio-economic development”.

Attending the meeting included Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng, Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh city’s Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Nguyễn Thị Lệ, Vice Chairmen of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà and Trần Tấn Hùng and dignitaries representing 39 religious organizations in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Bùi Thanh Hà stated that Vietnam is a multi–religion country with many religious followers. According to the Vice Chairman, about 95% Vietnamese population practices certain forms of belief and religion, including over 24 million religious followers (about 27% of overall population) with 83,000 dignitaries and 25,000 worshipping places.

“Religious followers have played considerable roles in the country’s development, and actively contributed to the implementation of the ethnic and religious unity policies in the cause of national construction and defense, as well as promoted cultural and civilized lifestyles, conducted by charitable activities, he added.

At the meeting, religious dignitaries discussed and shared experiences on building cultural and civilized lifestyles and promoting educational, social activities and programs for ensuring social welfare and boosting economic development.

 Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Phạm Dũng highlighted practical contributions made by religious organizations over the past years. He also urged religious organizations to actively join activities for environmental protection, climate change adaptation, as well as promotion of civilized lifestyles, food safety and public order.
