Government Religious Committee Vice Chairman receives Baha’i international representative

On Oct. 7, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Dương Ngọc Tấn received a delegation of the Baha’i International Community in Southeast Asia region led by Mr. Chong Ming Hwee.

General Secretary of the Spiritual Council of  Vietnam Baha’i Community Nguyễn Đình Thỏa also joint the meeting reception.

At the reception, Mr. Chong Ming Hwee shared with the host that the Baha’i International Community has just established two new representative offices in Addis Ababa (Africa) and Jakarta, Indonesia (Southeast Asia) for expanding international relations in these areas. He also took the chance to thank the GCRA for its supports extended to Vietnam Baha’i Community over the past years.

At the reception, Vice Chairman Dương Ngọc Tấn shared with the guests the current religious situation in Vietnam and guidelines and policies of the Party and State on belief and religion. He stated that Vietnam is home to nearly 25 million followers of 14 religions (accounting for about 27% population) with 38 religious organizations recognized by the State, and about 95% of Vietnamese population have some forms of belief or religious life. He also emphasized that the Vietnamese Government always respects and guarantees the right to freedom of belief and religion for every citizens.

The Party and State of Vietnam always respects the religious equality, and Vietnam Baha'i community, with a rather small number of believers, is treated equally as with other religious communities, he said.
