Government Religious Committee reviews ten-year implementation of Directive on Protestantism

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) in collaboration with the Northwest Steering Committee reviewed ten-year implementation of Directive 01/2005/CT-TTg on some tasks regarding Protestantism in the Northwest region at a meeting held on July 24 in Yen Bai province.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chairman of the Northwest Steering Committee Trương Xuân Cừ, Vice Chairwoman of the Northwest Steering Committee Hoàng Thị Hạnh and Vice Chairman of the GCRA Bùi Thanh Hà.

Officials of ministries, central agencies and 14 Northwestern provinces attended the meeting.

At the meeting, participating delegates discussed results implementing the Prime Minister’s Directive in the past ten years as well as issues relating to the implementation of the Directive such as activities of Protestant groups after registration, personnel working on state religious affairs in the region,…

According to a meeting report, the Northern mountainous region is home to more than 30 ethnic minorities, accounting for 63% of the population throughout the region. Currently, the region has about 1,300 Protestant meeting groups with over 180,000 followers.
