Government religious committee reviews six-month work on state governance on religion

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on June 26 a conference in Dak Lak province for reviewing performances on state management on religion in the first six months of 2020.  

The conference co-chaired by Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng and Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in Dak Lak Võ Văn Cảnh saw the presence of Vice Chairman of the Central Committee for Internal Affairs Commission Phạm Gia Túc, Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Ánh Chức and Vice Chairwoman of the GCRA Trần Thị Minh Nga, representatives of concerning central authorities and heads of religious affairs committee in provinces and cities.

As reported at the event, in the first six months of 2020, religious organizations in the country have strictly observed the Prime Minister’s directions and regulations for preventing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, with traditional worshipping festivals taking place within worshipping places only; superstitious activities and deviant worshipping practices have also significantly been reduced, comparing to the same period in the last year.

The conference pointed out remaining problems relating to religion-related land and construction, difficulties in the implementation of the Law of Belief and Religion 2016, and the handling of deviant worshipping practices.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng requested religious affairs committee in provinces and cities to deal with internal conflicts inside several religious organizations, strengthen the management on new belief and religion phenomena, proactively prevent heresies and deviant worshipping practices, inspect and timely handle cases relating religion-related land, enhance the communication work on social media, and encourage practical charitable and social programs of religious organizations.
