Government religious committee presents registration certificate to LDS church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Vietnam (LDS) held on November 15 a solemn ceremony to receive the registration certificate for religious operation.  

The event saw the presence of Director of the Christian Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Thiều Thị Hương, Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng, Head of the Vietnam LDS Church’s Coordination Committee, Elder David F. Evans, President of the Asia Area of the LDS Church, representatives from central agencies, Caodaism, Catholicism and Baha’i faith in the city, and a large number of the LDS Church’s members.

During the ceremony, authorized by Chairman of the GCRA, Director Thiều Thị Hương presented the registration certificate for religious operation to the LDS Church. She also took the chance to convey the GCRA Chairman’s congratulations to all members of the LDS Church.

Speaking at the event, Head Hoàng Văn Tùng took the chance to thank State authorities and the GCRA especially, for creating favorable conditions for the LDS Church over the past years. He also affirmed that the LDS Church’s coordination committee would continue guiding the Church’s members to abide State laws and fulfill civil obligations.

Along with the certificate of religious operation registration for the Church, the GCRA also approved the four-member Coordination Committee of the Church headed by Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng.

The LDS Church was brought to Vietnam in 1962. Currently, the Church has over 2,000 members, mostly residing in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city.  The Interim Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Vietnam was recognized in 2014.
