Government religious committee official attends year-end conference of VBS’s Central Subcommittee for Nun Affairs

Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Thị Minh Nga attended on January 16 the annual conference of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Central Subcommittee for Nun Affairs for reviewing its performance 2023 and approving working plans 2024.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman Trần Thị Minh Nga spoke highly of practical contributions of social charities made by the subcommittee for nun affairs in 2023, and stated that efforts of Buddhist nuns have contributed to enhance their role and position in the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The GCRA official expressed hope that the VBS’s subcommittee for nun affairs currently headed by Superior Nun Thích Nữ Nhật Khương would continue accompanying with the nation, practically contributing to sustainable development of the country.

As reported, in 2023, the VBS’s central subcommittee for nun affairs and its branches in 42 provinces and cities in the country have spent 557 billion VND (out of the total of over 2,000 billion VND of the VBS on social charities, including the presentation of scholarships to poor students in remote areas and charitable houses, the blood donation, assistance for len replacement surgery and free medical examination for disadvantaged people. In particular, the VBS’s central subcommittee for nun affairs in collaboration with the GCRA has presented 1,500 sets of support supplies to poor people and boarding ethnic students in three northwestern mountainous provinces, and together with Post and Telecommunications Hospital replaced eye lens for disadvantaged people in Nghe An province’s Anh Son district, with the total value of over two billion VND.

During the conference, the VBS’s central subcommittee for nun affairs presented certificates of merit to its three functioning boards for Buddhist Propagation, Guidance and Social Charity for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs in 2023.
