Government Religious Committee official attends 4th congress of Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Ánh Chức attended and extended congratulations to the 4th congress of Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Church for the 2023-2028 tenure on June 16 in Ho Chi Minh city.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Ánh Chức spoke highly of practical contributions made by dignitaries and lay followers of Minh Su Buddhist Church over the past year. He expressed hope that they would continue practicing the religion according to the State laws, and actively engage in patriotic movements and social programs launched by local authorities, contributing to build a prosperous and civilized country of Vietnam.

The congress of Minh Su Buddhist Church took place at Trong Van Temple in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Chanh district with149 delegates from 44 Minh Su Buddhist Church’s worshipping places.

Guests at the congress included Head of the GCRA’s Caodai Affairs Division Nguyễn Phúc Nguyên, representatives from the municipal authorities and other religions in the city.

The congress selected six prestigious dignitaries to the Council of Religious Elders, and 19 members to the Buddhist Church’s Central Executive Committee for the 2023-2028 tenure with Elder Nguyễn Văn Dần reselected as Chairman of the Central Executive Committee.

     

Overview of the congress

As reported at the event, during the 2018-2023 period, the Minh Su Buddhist Church has recorded many good results in religious and charitable activities including reconstruction of the Church’s worshipping temples with the total cost of over 55 billion VND, donations to social charities with the total value of over 9 billion VND.
